The scholar I'm reading right now is discussing medieval notions of the body. It's pretty interesting, except she keeps mentioning stuff like girls who stop eating in order to demonstrate their faith, or the sanctification of girls who die to protect their virginity. It serves her thesis well, but she's just kind of steamrolling past the usual psychosocial explanations, like... well, anorexia? Societal preoccupation with reproductive control?

I guess we'll see how the rest of this chapter pans out, but so far I feel weird about it.
